FLORENCE RACING TOWARD CAROLINAS… Hurricane Florence continues to pack maximum sustained winds of 140 mph as the system makes a bee line for the coastal areas of North Carolina. We’re also watching Tropical Storm Isaac and a tropical wave in the southern Gulf of Mexico this morning. A few morning notes…

– Hurricane Florence remains a strong category 4 hurricane with max. winds at 140 mph. Further intensification is possible throughout the day. Don’t be shocked if Florence becomes a category 5 hurricane as strength fluctuations are expected before landfall.

– We remain on the evening video schedule. See all the details about Florence in long form text and video here.

– INVEST 95L is the tropical wave in the southern Gulf of Mexico moving northwest. The system will likely become a tropical storm before making landfall in Texas later this week into the weekend.

– Tropical Storm Isaac will begin to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of the Lesser Antilles over the next 36 hours. The longer range (5+ days out) forecast for Isaac is incredibly unclear, with many model solutions and not a lot of answers right now. We’ll keep you posted.

– Hurricane Helene is in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean, well away from land. No direct impacts to land are expected in the days ahead.

– Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms will happen later today across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Severe weather is not expected. High temperatures will be around 91°.

– My next video will be posted this evening. We’ll have plenty more updates throughout the day here in the RedZone Weather app.

Have a nice Wednesday!
