EARLY AFTERNOON UPDATE… A big field of cumulus clouds have developed across south Alabama & NW Florida this afternoon. Inevitably, some of these cumulus clouds will continue to grow into cumulonimbus clouds and produce heavy rain and become larger thunderstorms. We note that the tornado warning that was in effect (mentioned in the post below) for portions of northern Madison County in northern Alabama has been allowed to expire. Showers and storms are happening near Jasper, Hueytown, McCalla, Gardendale, and Dora/Sumiton just northeast of the Birmingham metro. These showers/storms in central Alabama are under severe limits.

I expect showers and thunderstorms to bubble up across our area over the next few hours. Some of the storms could be on the strong side, especially near and north of U.S. Highway 84. I’ll have radar updates as necessary here in the RZWeather app.
