SEVERE STORMS MOVING SOUTH… This MCS (mesoscale convective system) has done an incredible amount of damage across the northern half of Alabama on this Thursday afternoon. There have been MANY (likely in the hundreds) reports of trees down across the state. At this hour, the cities of Montgomery, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Centreville, Clanton, Marion, Prattville, Tuskegee, and Wetumpka remain under a Severe Thunderstorm WARNING. These are not “ordinary” severe thunderstorm warnings… These are warnings that are verifying many times over. Be inside and don’t be driving in this mess unless you absolutely have to!

This mass of storms is moving south and will arrive in our local area this evening. Wilcox, Choctaw, Marengo, Butler, Crenshaw, Monroe, Clarke, and Conecuh counties will be first up to see strong storms. Be ready!

STORMS FIRING IN CLARKE COUNTY… Closer to home, at the moment we are dry across the region other than a few small storms firing near Campbell and Coffeeville in Clarke County in west Alabama. These are pop-up, isolated storms that are well under severe limits. Again, the bigger issues are currently to our north.
