SHOWERS & STORMS RETURN THIS WEEKEND… After a couple of drier days, today we will begin the transition back to a wetter forecast. Most spots this morning started in the upper-60s (felt great!) but heat will quickly build today. High temperatures will be around 93 in most spots. We’re also monitoring a newly emerged tropical wave far out in the Atlantic. Let’s talk details…

VERY FEW STORMS TODAY… Plenty of sunshine with cumulus clouds dotting the sky is what most of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida will see on this Friday. There could be a few showers and thunderstorms around today, particularly if you’re in northwest Florida. Places like Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Crestview, Florala, Milton, and Navarre have a slightly higher rain chance compared to areas back to the northwest. I do think most of us will be dry today with the storms being very isolated.

DRY EVENING FOR MOST… Most high school football and other events across the region this evening should be dry with temperatures in the 80s. There could be a rogue storm or two, particularly in Okaloosa and Walton counties on the southeast flank of our region. Most events will be dry.

HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Winds will shift from out of the south this weekend, ushering in warm, Gulf moisture that will lay the foundation for showers and thunderstorms to bubble up in the heat of the day. We’ll call it a 40% chance of rain for Saturday and a 50% chance on Sunday. Per our usual, most of the storms will fire up between Noon and 7PM. Severe weather is NOT expected, but some of the storms will produce heavy rain and lots of lightning.

TROPICAL WAVE IN ATLANTIC… A tropical wave emerged from the African continent yesterday and is currently near the Cabo Verde Islands. This tropical wave is currently in an environment that is not conducive for tropical storm formation. While no development is expected through Monday, the National Hurricane Center is suggesting there is a low-end (10%) chance of tropical storm development in the latter half of next week as the tropical wave approaches the Lesser Antilles. Something to watch, but no need to stress over this… It’s late August and we should expect multiple tropical disturbances like this. I’ll keep you posted.

APP… We’ve had somewhat of a break from showers and storms over the last few days, and thus, not as many updates in the RedZone Weather app. With more activity on radar, we will have more updates in the app in the days ahead! If you haven’t already, be sure to set up the customized weather alerts that you would like to receive from me. Visit the Alerts tab (bottom right corner of the app) and then tap the large, yellow “Alert Settings” button.

I’ve got all the forecast details for you in the Friday #rzw forecast video… Let me know if you have any weather-related questions. Have a great weekend!
