P.M. STORMS LIKELY; FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS FORECAST… The forecast remains remarkably consistent in that we’ve got another round of showers and thunderstorms on tap today across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. Several of the high school football games across our region could be wet, with lingering storms likely into the evening hours. We’re still tracking Tropical Storm Kirk, but the good news is Kirk won’t be around much longer. Let’s talk details…

STORMS AROUND TONIGHT… Grab the rain gear and keep it close tonight if you’re headed out to a high school football game. Most spots should be dry by 7PM when the games kick off, but I can’t rule out a few lingering storms. I expect temperatures in most spots to be around 78 at kickoff. By the 4th quarter of many of the games, most spots will be in the mid-70s.

WET WEEKEND AT TIMES… Rain chances will be highest today compared to any of the next 5-6 days. We’ll call it a 60% chance of rain for any given spot across our region today. Rain chances on Saturday and Sunday drop to 40-50% with drier days ahead for next week. Have the rain gear handy throughout the weekend! It won’t be an “all day washout,” but there will be storms around. You can keep up with the radar view in the Radar tab of the RedZone Weather app (redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download).

KIRK TO DISSIPATE (AGAIN) THIS WEEKEND… Tropical Storm Kirk moved directly over St. Lucia late on Thursday and crossed into the far eastern Caribbean Sea. Kirk is packing maximum sustained winds near 45 mph at the moment, but weakening is expected imminently. There’s a good chance atmospheric shear will completely disrupt the inner core of Kirk in the next 48 hours. This will likely be Kirk’s final demise as conditions over the central Caribbean are NOT conducive for redevelopment.

GULF REMAINS QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico and western Caribbean Sea remain quiet with no tropical storm issues expected over the next 5 days. There is a high chance the remnants of Subtropical Storm Leslie reform over the weekend in the open waters of the Atlantic east of Bermuda as Tropical Storm Michael. This system won’t be a threat to land. We’ll keep you posted.

See all the details in your Friday #rzw forecast video… Have a great weekend!
