MOSTLY RAIN & A FEW SNOWFLAKES IN WEST ALABAMA… Just as expected, we’ve a cold rain happening across much of south Alabama and northwest Florida this morning. Several reports have come in over the last few minutes of snow falling in west Alabama near Thomasville and near Butler in Choctaw County. This has been and likely will be an “underperforming” snow event for much of central/north Alabama, with drier air overtaking areas behind the cold front that is currently moving through our area. Regardless of if you get snow/flurries or not, we’ve got cold air moving into our area that will set the stage for a COLD Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Let’s talk details…
RAIN/SNOW LINE MOVING EAST IN WEST ALABAMA… There are some embedded snowflakes in the rain falling across parts of Clarke, Washington, and Choctaw counties this morning. I received a video from my cousin, Ellen Gates, in Thomasville showing a rain/snow mix happening at 7:25AM. You can see this video in the RedZone Weather app. The line and change over from rain to snow will continue to progressively push eastward over the next few hours.
MIXED PRECIP POSSIBLE TO THE NORTH… We can say confidently that other than a few flurries, the snow/mix will be confined to our inland counties today. This means if you’re in Washington, Clarke, Monroe, Conecuh, and Butler counties could have a brief dusting of snow, but significant accumulation (>0.5”) is not expected. You may be able to see a few flurries mixing in with the rain right before precipitation ends across much of our region, but that’s about it in terms of snow.

COLDEST NIGHT WILL BE TONIGHT/WEDNESDAY MORNING… Very cold Arctic air will surge into our region during the daytime hours of Tuesday behind the passing cold front. Overnight lows on Wednesday morning will be in the low- to mid-20s.
QUIET, COOL DAYS AHEAD… We’ve got several quiet, cool weather days coming up for the rest of the week. High temperatures will increase to near 64° by Friday with overnight lows rising into the 50s by the weekend. Rain chances will start to rise on Saturday into Sunday with temperatures returning to above our climatological norms for this time of year. Some spots by Sunday will hit the low-70s in the afternoon hours.
