NICE FRIDAY AHEAD OF A FEW STORMS SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY… Fantastic weather continues today and much of the day on Saturday with high temperatures in the mid- to upper-70s each day. Clouds will progressively increase in number over the next 24-36 hours ahead of rain chances slightly increasing for Saturday night. Multiple batches of rain are ahead through Monday night but we likely won’t have any severe weather issues locally. Temperatures will be a bit cooler Sunday into Monday after the passage of a cold front. Let’s talk details…

LEVEL 1 RISK TO OUR NORTHWEST SATURDAY… While showers and storms will likely be well below severe limits as they move into our area late Saturday into the early part of Sunday, the Storm Prediction Center has outlined parts of northwest Alabama and much of Mississippi in their Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk zone. If you’re traveling to those areas, be aware that there could be a few strong storms around. This includes areas like Florence, Muscle Shoals, Hamilton, Aliceville, Fayette, Russellville, Tupelo (MS), Jackson (MS), Columbus (MS), Starkville (MS), and Oxford (MS). Again, no part of south Alabama or northwest Florida is included in a formal severe weather risk zone for Saturday. Good news!

SHOWERS & STORMS LATE SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY… There very well may be some spots across the local area that don’t get any rain, but I do expect MOST spots to pick up between 0.1” and 0.25” of rainfall with the first round of rainfall that happens late Saturday into Sunday. Thunder and lightning will be more likely to happen when storms are in west Alabama compared to when they move east of I-65 where the atmosphere is expected to be more stable. Rain showers will likely linger into Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon could have isolated showers around but much of the rain should be to our east by then.

MUCH COOLER SUNDAY & MONDAY… All of the rain that happens this weekend is mainly due to an approaching cold front that will move across our area from northwest to southeast. This cold front will usher in slightly cooler air, keeping high temperatures in the low-60s on both Sunday and Monday. Cloud cover should keep overnight lows “in check” and above the 40 degree mark at all times over the next 7 days.

QUICK TEMPERATURE TURNAROUND NEXT WEEK… Highs will quickly recover into the mid-70s by Wednesday of the upcoming week as a warm, southerly wind returns. Tuesday through Thursday of the upcoming week look dry with partly cloudy skies expected each day.
