SONIC BOOM WAS LIKELY NOT AN EARTHQUAKE THIS MORNING… The numerous reports of sonic booms and houses shaking across parts of Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties this morning were likely not caused by an earthquake. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has (as of 1:23PM) not suggested or confirmed any earthquake activity today. Dozens of people in places like Milton, Bagdad, Crestview, Harold, Holt, and many areas near Eglin Air Force Base reported loud booms and houses shaking earlier this morning. The reports I’ve received this morning are not consistent with the now “normal” minor earthquake pattern over the last few weeks. The reports are consistent with unannounced military activity, however, although I cannot conclusively say that is what caused the boom/shaking. I’ll let you know if there are updates to this situation.
