SCATTERED STORMS THIS WEEKEND; HOT PATTERN CONTINUES… Summertime continues in full force today, Saturday, and on Sunday as afternoon and evening thunderstorms pop up in the heat of the day. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s regardless of where you are across the region. I expect showers and storms to be a bit more numerous on Saturday and Sunday compared to the last few days. These very likely won’t be severe storms, but you know the drill with these summer storms: They pop up starting generally in the early afternoon hours and continue popping up until the sun goes down. Heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds will be possible in the stronger storms.
WHEN THUNDER ROARS, GO INDOORS… Friendly reminder that if you’re close enough to a thunderstorm to hear thunder, you’re close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning. We strongly encourage everyone who is in or around storms this weekend to get inside and FAST. Lightning kills far too many people across America each year and these deaths are in most cases, arguably preventable. Please get inside if you’re near a storm.
CONSISTENT PATTERN SET TO CONTINUE… The short- and medium-term weather models continue to suggest that afternoon and evening storms, ample heat, and plenty of humidity will continue to be a part of our weather pattern over the next few weeks. I don’t see anything in the way of tropical nuisances or big pattern changes upcoming.
TROPICS QUIET… No tropical storm formation is expected in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean over the next 5-7 days.
