HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE AT TIMES TODAY; FEW SHOWERS SATURDAY; DRIER SUNDAY… Rain is the word on this Friday as an area of low pressure tracks just to our south today. There could be pockets of heavy rain at times throughout the day on this Friday. Rain totals across south Alabama and northwest Florida will be in the 0.3” to 1” range in most spots. High temperatures will be in the mid-50s due to the ongoing cloud cover. Despite the dreariness, the good news is we are not expecting severe weather issues today. Little to no thunder/lightning action is expected either as atmospheric instability remains almost nonexistent. There could be a few lingering showers into Saturday ahead of a much nicer, warmer, drier Sunday. We also are looking ahead to next week when an active weather pattern will set up across the region. All the forecast details are below.

RAIN CHANCES PEAK AROUND NOON… Scattered showers are happening this morning across the region. Rain coverage should increase across the area through 1PM. Rain will become more scattered in nature this evening around 4PM with an overall lessening of rain coverage this evening. There is a very high chance nearly all of us will have rain in progress for much of the early afternoon hours. I’ll have radar updates as needed today in the RedZone Weather app. You’ll want to keep the jackets handy today as temperatures will struggle to get out of the low-50s.

FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING INTO SATURDAY MORNING… Much of the rain will happen in the daylight hours on this Friday, but we could have a few isolated showers lingering into the evening. Keep the umbrellas handy if you’re headed out and about this evening. The same story holds true for Saturday morning. We maintain a 10-20% chance of a few showers through Noon on Saturday, although the bulk of the rain should be to our east at that point.

DRIER SATURDAY EVENING… All of the rain should be gone by midday on Saturday. High temperatures will rebound into the low-60s by 2PM. Cloud cover will decrease from west to east on Saturday afternoon into the evening hours. Mostly clear skies are likely Saturday evening into Sunday morning.

NICE, DRY, SLIGHTLY WARMER SUNDAY… There is high confidence that Sunday will be our “best weather day” out of the next 7 days. Mostly sunny skies will happen on Sunday with temperatures making a run at 70 degrees by 2PM.

ACTIVE PATTERN AHEAD FOR NEXT WEEK… There is at least some chance of rain each day Monday through Friday during the upcoming week. There also will be a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms on Tuesday into Wednesday of the upcoming week, based on some model scenarios. It is too early to nail down specifics. I’ll continue to monitor trends this weekend and bring you updates as needed.

APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
