WARM DAYS, MILD NIGHTS AHEAD; TROPICAL STORM IN ATLANTIC THIS WEEKEND… Warm temperatures with passing clouds will be the main weather headline across south Alabama and northwest Florida over the next few days. We continue to monitor a developing tropical storm or subtropical storm that will move well to our east and remain over the open waters of the southwestern Atlantic Ocean. This system could become Subtropical Storm Arthur as early as Friday. Unfortunately, no rain from that system will happen across our area. We could have a shower or two across the region this afternoon, but overall rain chances remain very low. Temperatures will peak in the upper-80s today. We’ll approach 90° during the afternoon hours this weekend. Let’s look at a few forecast details.

TROPICAL DISTURBANCE EAST OF FLORIDA THIS WEEKEND… There is a high (70-80%) chance that a tropical storm or subtropical storm will form east of Florida off the Atlantic coast, perhaps near or north of The Bahamas, this weekend. Model guidance has trended a bit farther to the west, putting the center of circulation a bit closer to the eastern seaboard of the U.S. The center forecast remains far enough offshore that impacts from Florida northward to the Carolinas should be pretty limited. Rip currents will be a major concern at the Atlantic beaches this weekend into early next week. This system will likely never have any direct local impacts in south Alabama or northwest Florida.

LATEST NOTE FROM NHC… The National Hurricane Center issued the latest Tropical Weather Outlook concerning the tropical disturbance that will form near The Bahamas this weekend. It reads: “A broad area of low pressure is expected to develop in a couple of days near or just north of the Bahamas. Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system, and a subtropical depression or storm is likely to form this weekend. The system is expected to move generally northeastward over the western Atlantic through early next week.”

FEW SHOWERS YESTERDAY, MAYBE ONE OR TWO THIS AFTERNOON… We actually had a few small showers on Wednesday across parts of Monroe, Clarke, Washington, Mobile, and Baldwin counties. These showers were very isolated in nature and most folks across our area remained completely dry. There could be, perhaps, a shower or two this afternoon. The overall rain chance is so low, however, that I can’t include the 10% probabilities at this point. Again, nearly all of us will be dry today but there may be a shower or two on the radar between 2PM and 6PM. Any showers will unfortunately be brief and likely very small and isolated.
