RAIN & STORMS TODAY; INCREASINGLY WET PATTERN AHEAD… Multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms are likely on this Monday across south Alabama and northwest Florida as an area of low pressure moves by our region. High temperatures will be suppressed to around 80 degrees in most spots as clouds will be numerous across the region throughout the day. We continue to track Tropical Storm Arthur, now situated east of the South Carolina and North Carolina coast. The center of Arthur will pass to the east of North Carolina today. Direct U.S. impacts are expected to be limited. Our weather pattern looks increasingly wet and increasingly unsettled with multiple chances for showers and storms ahead. Let’s look at your forecast details.

TROPICAL STORM ARTHUR NEAR NORTH CAROLINA COAST… Tropical Storm Arthur continues to move northeast across the southwestern flank of the Atlantic Ocean just east of the Carolina coast today. Arthur will make its closest approach to the U.S. near Cape Hatteras and the Outer Banks region where tropical storm warnings continue. The tropical storm will move out to sea over the next few days where it will weaken and ultimately dissipate as it moves toward Bermuda. Just as quick as the first named storm of hurricane season formed, the end for Arthur is now in sight. There are currently no other areas of concern in the Atlantic basin, including the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.

STORMS AT TIMES TODAY… Rain and storms will be possible throughout the day on this Monday. The greatest rain chance will happen this morning into the early afternoon hours. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a stronger storm or two capable of producing gusty wind and hail cannot completely be ruled out. The overall tornado risk today remains very low or at zero for most locations. I will have radar updates in the next few hours in the RedZone Weather app.

RAIN FADES AWAY TONIGHT… We get a break from the rain tonight into Tuesday morning. Skies will become mostly clear after midnight. Overnight lows by Tuesday at 6AM will be around the 60 degree mark.

MOSTLY SUNNY TUESDAY A.M. WITH SHOWERS POSSIBLE IN P.M. HOURS… We start the day on Tuesday with mostly sunny skies in place with temperatures in the 70s. We’ll quickly rise into the 80s by midday as cloud coverage begins to increase from west to east across our area. A few small showers may become possible after 3PM.

RAIN & STORMS RETURN MIDWEEK… There is a growing chance that Wednesday and Thursday will be similar to today with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the region. Long range guidance last week suggested that this week would predominantly be dry, but that idea is now out the window with multiple chances of rain on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Severe weather parameters remain low, for now, as we look toward midweek.

TRENDING WETTER FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND… Our weather pattern looks to be increasingly summer-like as we go into the Memorial Day holiday weekend. We may have to increase rain chances for Saturday and Sunday as models have increasingly suggested more in the way of afternoon and evening pop-up thunderstorms. We’ll keep you posted over the next few days.
