UNSETTLED WEATHER THIS WEEKEND; HEAVY RAIN & STORMS LIKELY SUNDAY… Rain and storms will be possible across the area on this Friday. Multiple rounds of rain and storms are ahead through Sunday ahead of the passage of a strong cold front Sunday evening. The attached graphic highlights rain totals over the next 5 days, with most spots locally expected to pick up at least 2 inches of rainfall in total. Most of this rain will happen today and on Sunday. A few isolated stronger storms may be possible on Sunday as well. We’re also looking ahead to some significantly colder air moving in on Monday. FOGGY START ACROSS THE REGION… A Dense Fog Advisory continues for the next hour as foggy conditions continue in many spots across our region. If you’re headed out for Black Friday shopping this morning, be aware of the potential for dense fog.
SHOWERS & STORMS AT TIMES TODAY… Rain chances will increase throughout the day on this Friday. Rain and thunderstorms will be possible, including the potential for some heavier storms on the western side of our region closer to the Alabama-Mississippi state line. The main concern in the storms today will be gusty winds and cloud-to-ground lightning. Heavy rain will also be possible that could lead to nuisance-type flooding. Rain chances tonight will peak at about an 80% chance in the evening hours. High temperatures across the region will be in the mid-70s.
RAIN & STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY TOO… We get somewhat of a break from the rain tomorrow (Saturday) but even with most spots being dry, I cannot completely rule out a few showers happening mainly in the morning hours. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the low-70s.
IRON BOWL LIKELY TO BE DRY… Earlier this week, it looked like there was a fairly significant rain chance for Tuscaloosa on Saturday for the Iron Bowl. The forecast for the greater Tuscaloosa area has trended much drier. Partly cloudy skies are expected for Saturday in central Alabama with highs in the mid-60s.
NEAR 100% CHANCE OF RAIN ON SUNDAY… There is very little doubt that Sunday will be quite wet across south Alabama and northwest Florida. The presence of a stationary front in combination with upper-level atmospheric disturbances will create a situation where heavy rain may be possible throughout the day on Sunday. There also could be a low-end risk of a few strong to severe thunderstorms.
COLD WEEK AHEAD… Next week will be the coldest week overall we have had since winter last year. High temperatures on Monday will drop into the 50s with multiple nights of subfreezing temperatures being possible.
NO WINTER MISCHIEF IN SIGHT… Cold temperatures ARE in the forecast for our region early next week, but at this time there is no potential for snow or wintry precipitation. Why? In classic fashion, it looks like all of the rain and precipitation will be long gone by the time the cold air arrives on Monday. Skies will be clear by Monday night and remain clear into Tuesday and Wednesday.
