RAIN & A FEW STORMS LIKELY THIS EVENING, OVERNIGHT, AND INTO FRIDAY… Scattered showers will increase in coverage on this Thursday ahead of heavy rain being possible at times tomorrow morning. Rain chances will gradually increase today from west to east. It looks like the bulk of the rain will happen overnight from 10PM to 5AM with rain gradually tapering off during the daytime hours of Friday. The overall risk of severe weather remains very low, if not zero in most spots locally. High temperatures today will be in the mid- to upper-60s. There could be a few claps of thunder over the next 24 hours, especially near the coast. Showers could happen at times this weekend, but the overall chance of rain will be lower compared to Friday. Our next higher chance of rain and storms happens on Monday. Some scenarios point to the potential for a few stronger storms. Let’s look at all of your Thursday morning forecast details.
RAIN LIKELY TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY… The coverage of scattered showers will progressively increase tonight into early Friday. Rain amounts of 1-2 inches in total will be possible across our region, but particularly across inland areas of south Alabama. Rain totals closer to the coast through Friday will be much less. There is a real chance some coastal communities may not have much rain at all. High temperatures on Friday will be in the upper-60s across the region.
FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND… Rain chances will be lower, but not entirely zero, this weekend. A few showers may be possible at times as our area remains in a moist airmass. Temperatures will remain mild this weekend (by late January standards) with highs in the 60s and lows near 50.
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ON MONDAY… There continues to be uncertainty regarding the setup for Monday, but there are some scenarios that point to the potential for thunderstorms being possible across the local area. There is a conditional risk of a few strong storms IF enough instability can develop across the area. At this point, however, that remains a big IF. Severe weather events are certainly not unheard of in the month of January around here but there is no doubt that tornadoes are MORE likely to happen in our classic severe weather season months in March and April.
