SCATTERED SHOWERS LATER TODAY; STORMS POSSIBLE AT TIMES TUESDAY… Rain and storms will be possible later today as we enter a wet, warm, unsettled pattern that will last until Wednesday. Widespread severe weather remains unlikely for our local area, but there could be some rumbles of thunder around later today, especially across parts of west Alabama. High temperatures on this Monday will be far above our climatological norms for this time of year. Most spots will peak in the mid-70s! Rain will continue to be possible at times until Wednesday when a cold front arrives and ushers in much cooler, drier air. Thursday and Friday are slated to be cooler, drier, and much more seasonal. Let’s look at all of your Monday morning forecast details.
INCREASING RAIN CHANCES TODAY… Rain chances will increase from west to east today. Do not be surprised to hear some thunder at times this evening as storms will be possible. I expect most of the thunderstorms locally to happen across parts of west Alabama. This means if you’re in Clarke, Monroe, Washington, Marengo, Wilcox, or Choctaw counties, you have a slightly greater chance of experiencing some thunder mixed in with the rain later today. High temperatures will be in the mid-70s across the entire region.
LITTLE TO NO RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER TODAY… The Storm Prediction Center includes parts of northwest Mississippi, northern Louisiana, Arkansas, and western Tennessee in their low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk valid for today. Our local area in south Alabama and northwest Florida remains involved in the “general thunderstorms” zone today, meaning there is no formal risk of severe storms. Thunder at times, maybe. Severe storms, no.
RAIN & STORMS LIKELY ON TUESDAY… Rain chances will peak tomorrow as scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible across the region. Our area will remain involved in a warm (for late January), humid air mass capable of supporting quite a bit of rain and maybe a few thunderstorms. Highs on Tuesday will again be in the mid-70s.
SHOWERS & STORMS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY MORNING… Wednesday will serve as somewhat of a transition day with showers and thunderstorms moving out in the late morning hours. High temperatures will again be in the mid-70s, however temperatures will begin to decline fairly rapidly Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, most spots will be in the 40s as cool, drier air filters in behind the advancing cold front.
BETTER WEATHER FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY… Sunny skies will return Thursday afternoon and on Friday. Highs will drop into the 50s on Thursday but we will have a quick turn around with temps near 60 by Friday.
MORE RAIN POSSIBLE IN UPCOMING WEEKEND… Another passing weather system is slated to bring showers and maybe a few thunderstorms to our region late Saturday into Sunday. It is too early to know if strong storms will be a possibility. Temperatures will make a quick recovery into the upper-60s by Sunday,
