SCATTERED SHOWERS & STORMS TODAY; COOLER TEMPS AHEAD THIS WEEK… Keep the rain gear handy today and tomorrow as scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely at times. Severe weather is not expected today but there could be a few claps of thunder this afternoon. High temperatures today will be in the upper-70s. Much cooler air arrives tomorrow in many spots across the local area, meaning highs on Tuesday likely won’t make it to the 60 degree mark in many spots across our inland communities. Heavy rain that could lead to nuisance-type flooding may become a concern on Tuesday in addition to a very low-end risk of a few stronger storms near the immediate coast. We dry out on Wednesday ahead of a nice end to the week. Your full Monday morning forecast details are below.

DENSE FOG NEAR THE COAST… Just like the last several mornings, dense fog is an issue in some communities this morning near the coast. If you’re commuting to work or school early this morning, please be aware of the potential for dense fog through 9-10AM. Most inland communities do not have fog in place this morning, but some areas near the coast certainly do.

BREEZY CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON; SCATTERED SHOWERS… Showers are likely at times today, mainly this afternoon into this evening as a frontal boundary slides into our area from the north. Breezy conditions are likely today with wind out of the southwest at 5-15 mph, with higher gusts being possible this afternoon into this evening. Rain chances will increase later this evening ahead of high (80-90%) rain chances on Tuesday.

RAIN & STORMS LIKELY ON TUESDAY… Heavy rain could become a concern on Tuesday, especially across the inland areas of southwest Alabama. If rain and storms train over the same areas, flash flooding could become a concern. In addition, there is a small chance there may be a stronger storm or two near the immediate Alabama and northwest Florida beach zones Tuesday afternoon and evening. This risk of a few stronger storms is conditional upon surface-based instability being able to reach the shoreline from the Gulf, and there is still a big question mark as to if that will happen. Regardless, widespread severe weather is not expected on Tuesday.

FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY MORNING… We transition from a wet pattern in the first part of the week to a drier pattern in the latter half of the week on Wednesday. While there could be a few showers early Wednesday morning, I expect most of the area to dry out on Wednesday with high temperatures expected to be in the low-60s.

SUNNY THURSDAY AND FRIDAY… Mostly sunny skies are ahead for Thursday and Friday with high temperatures likely to be in the 60s. Model guidance has been pretty firm in the idea of Thursday and Friday being dry ahead of a few showers Friday night into Saturday.
