HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES TODAY; FEW STRONGER STORMS NEAR COAST THIS EVENING… Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected on this second day of March across the region. Widespread severe weather is NOT expected today or tonight, but we could have a few rumbles of thunder closer to the immediate beach zones this evening. The main window for thunderstorms will be from 6PM to midnight. The narrow corridor from I-10 southward to the beaches is where we could see a few thunderstorms. There is a very small chance that a few of these storms could briefly become strong and produce gusty winds. The overall tornado risk remains quite low across all land areas. I will have updates posted as needed this evening in the RedZone Weather app.

FLASH FLOODING ISSUES POSSIBLE… Rain will be heavy at times today and there is a chance some areas could have nuisance-type flooding if showers and thunderstorms train over the same areas. The greatest chance of flash flooding today will be in coastal counties (Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties). If you encounter a water-covered roadway, please “turn around, don’t drown.” We lose way too many people across America each year due to this totally preventable tragedy.

CONDITIONAL RISK OF A FEW STRONG STORMS NEAR BEACHES… Vast majority of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida will simply have rain at times today, with heavy rain being possible. Most of our region will be in cool, stable air throughout the day. The concern this evening is that a narrow zone of higher surface-based instability may briefly move across coastal areas from west to east. This will likely happen from 6PM to midnight, meaning a few strong to marginally severe storms may become possible. The main concern in any storms that briefly ramp up to severe levels would be damaging wind gusts. The tornado risk will likely remain quite low, even in coastal zones. There is no tornado risk farther inland.

DRIER, COOLER CONDITIONS ON WEDNESDAY… Showers may linger into the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning before clearing out just before sunrise. Cloudy skies are expected in the morning hours ahead of clearing by midday. Most spots locally will have at least some peeks of sunshine by the end of the day. Highs on Wednesday will be in the upper-50s farther inland and closer to 60 closer to the coast

SUNNY ON THURSDAY… We will be just about as close as you can get to a “climatologically accurate” day on Thursday as you can get in early March around our region. High temperatures will be in the upper-60s with a full supply of sunshine throughout the day.

CLOUDS ON FRIDAY; FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE FRIDAY NIGHT… Clouds will increase in coverage throughout the day on Friday ahead of a few showers becoming possible after sunset. Highs on Friday will be in the upper-60s. Rain will be possible at times Friday night into early Saturday morning.

NICE WEEKEND AHEAD… Rain will clear out to our east on Saturday morning, meaning sunshine returns Saturday afternoon and evening. Sunday is expected to be sunny with high temperatures in the upper-60s.
