DAMAGING WIND GUSTS & HAIL POSSIBLE IN STORMS THIS EVENING ACROSS WEST ALABAMA… A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for many counties across west Alabama, Mississippi, and eastern Louisiana valid until 7PM. Locally, this includes Mobile, Clarke, and Washington counties. Thunderstorms are beginning to fire up near Columbus, MS and Tuscaloosa, AL. This developing cluster of thunderstorms will move south over the next several hours. This cluster of storms may evolve into a mesoscale convective system (MCS) that could pose a risk of damaging wind gusts and large hail as it moves southward in the hours ahead. In addition to the cluster of storms, widespread pop-up thunderstorms will be possible across the local area in the hours ahead, mainly concentrated over west Alabama. The tornado risk today remains very low, if not zero in most spots.

40% CHANCE OF TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT IN GULF LATER IN THE WEEK… The National Hurricane Center continues to suggest a tropical depression or tropical storm may form in the Bay of Campeche region of the southern Gulf of Mexico in a few days. Model guidance continues to suggest potential U.S. Gulf Coast impacts in 6-8 days from now. It remains too early to know if local impacts are likely in south Alabama or northwest Florida. I’ll be watching local pop-up thunderstorms over the next several hours with updates being posted in the RedZone Weather app. I will have another detailed tropical update later this evening.

APP ALERTS… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.

Have a nice Sunday afternoon!
