P.M. STORMS LIKELY TODAY AND INTO THE WEEKEND… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will pop up this afternoon into this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida. These thunderstorms will be seemingly random in nature and develop very quickly. Widespread severe weather is not expected today or on Saturday or Sunday. More P.M. pop-up thunderstorms are ahead for the weekend, and rain could be heavy in localized areas. More of the same is in store for next week as our weather pattern remains essentially unchanged. A few more Friday morning forecast details are below.

FORECAST ON TRACK FOR NEXT WEEK: MORE P.M. STORMS… No real forecast changes to report over the next 5-7 days. We expect a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day, mainly happening in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will be near 90 each day with morning lows around 70.

INVEST 95L NEAR AFRICA SHOWING SIGNS OF DEVELOPMENT… The National Hurricane Center says a tropical wave in the far eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean has a 40% chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next few days. From NHC: “A strong tropical wave located over the far east Atlantic off the African coast is producing a broad area of showers and thunderstorms. As the system moves west-northwestward into the central Atlantic Ocean, conditions appear only marginally conducive for development due to relatively cool ocean temperatures. However, a small tropical depression could still form by early next week.”

TROPICAL WAVE NEAR LESSER ANTILLES WEAKENING… The tropical wave we have been tracking over the last few days moving across the Atlantic Ocean has arrived into areas near the Lesser Antilles and Barbados. Upper-level winds remain unsupportive of development of this system into a tropical storm. The tropical wave is expected to weaken completely over the next few days.
