RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES TODAY; SLIGHTLY LOWER RAIN CHANCES SATURDAY… Pop-up showers and thunderstorms are likely at times, particularly in the P.M. hours, on this Friday. High temperatures will be near 90 this afternoon. This weekend, we have slightly (and I truly mean SLIGHTLY) lower rain chances on tap. Showers and thunderstorms will develop on Saturday into Sunday, but the overall coverage of rain and storms should be less compared to the last few days. Highs this weekend will be in the low-90s. Tropical Storm Elsa continues to move northeast. The rest of the tropical Atlantic is quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop anytime soon. Let’s look at a few of your weekend weather headlines, below.

MORE RAIN & STORMS NEXT WEEK… Seasonal rain chances are ahead for the early part of next week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain a daily part of our local weather pattern with most of the rain and storms happening in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will be in the low-90s next week with morning lows in the low-70s.

ELSA ON THE WAY OUT, PASSING NORTHEAST… Tropical Storm Elsa continues to move northeast at 20-25 mph. The center of circulation is passing very near New York and New England this morning. Elsa will advance into the Canadian Maritimes tonight into Saturday. The system will rapidly become extratropical before dissipating this weekend over the cold waters of the northern Atlantic Ocean. This will be the final mention of Elsa in our forecast discussions.

LOW PRESSURE OVER SOUTH TEXAS… Heavy rain and flash flooding issues continue in south Texas today as a broad area of low pressure continues to meander inland across that region. The National Hurricane Center indicates that this system is not expected to become a named tropical storm as the center of the area of low pressure remains over land. Regardless, flash flooding will continue to be a major concern in south Texas this weekend.

REST OF THE ATLANTIC BASIN REMAINS QUIET… Other than Elsa exiting to the northeast and the area of low pressure in south Texas, the remainder of the Atlantic Basin is quiet with no new tropical storms or hurricanes expected to develop over the next 5-7 days. Great news!
