SCATTERED STORMS TODAY; LOWER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible on this Thursday, primarily in the afternoon and evening hours. A few of the thunderstorms today may be on the strong side, with gusty winds and cloud-to-ground lightning being the main concerns. Widespread severe weather is not expected and the tornado risk today remains at zero. The overall coverage of rain and thunderstorms is expected to decrease over the next few days. Early next week will feature hotter temperatures with highs in the low-90s and lower rain chances compared to this week. A few more Thursday morning forecast details are below.

TROPICAL DISTURBANCE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP NEAR GEORGIA COAST… The National Hurricane Center indicates an area of low pressure may develop near the coast of Georgia in the Atlantic Ocean over the next few days. From NHC: “A broad trough of low pressure associated with a decaying frontal boundary over Mississippi and Alabama is forecast to move offshore of the southeastern United States coastline by the end of this week. Environmental conditions are forecast to be marginally conducive for some gradual development over the weekend into early next week while the system meanders offshore of the coasts of South Carolina, Georgia, and northeastern Florida.”

REST OF ATLANTIC BASIN IS QUIET… The remainder of the Atlantic Basin (outside of the aforementioned tropical disturbance set to develop near the Georgia coast) is quiet with no tropical storms expected to develop in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or main development region (MDR) of the Atlantic Ocean.
