FEW STORMS THIS EVENING; RAIN LIKELY THURSDAY; DRIER, WARMER WEEKEND… Scattered thunderstorms are likely at times today, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. Rain chances will increase today ahead of more rain and storms being likely at times on Thursday. Fortunately, widespread severe weather is not expected today or tomorrow, although you may hear some thunder at times. High temperatures today will be in the low-80s. Our local area will trend drier this weekend with sunny skies likely on Saturday and Sunday. More rain will become possible in the middle part of the upcoming week. I’ve got all of your Wednesday morning forecast notes below.

SHOWERS LIKELY AT TIMES TODAY, MAINLY THIS EVENING… Rain chances will gradually rise throughout the day across south Alabama and northwest Florida. The greatest chance of rain on this Wednesday will happen closer to the Alabama beaches and across west Alabama. Rain totals today will vary quite a bit with upwards of an inch of rain being possible closer to the Alabama coast. Some locales farther inland may not pick up any rain at all today, however. I will have radar updates posted, as needed, throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app.

RAIN & STORMS LIKELY THURSDAY… Tomorrow (Thursday) is slated to be our wettest day of the next several days. Rain and storms will be possible throughout the day. New rain totals of 1-2″ may be possible in isolated spots across the region. Severe weather is not expected but some of the storms tomorrow may produce loud thunder, quite a bit of lightning, and heavy downpours of rain.

FEW SHOWERS FRIDAY A.M. BUT DRIER BY EVENING… A few lingering showers may be possible on Friday morning ahead of drier conditions setting up into the evening hours. The high school football games across the region will likely be dry with kickoff temperatures around 7PM in the low-70s.

NICE, WARM WEEKEND… Saturday and Sunday are expected to feature sunny skies with high temperatures in the low-80s. Both days will be dry and quite nice. Overnight lows will be in the 60s on both Saturday morning and on Sunday morning.

MORE RAIN POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK… Showers and thunderstorms will again become possible in the middle part of next week as precipitable water values increase across the local area. Severe weather seems rather unlikely, but we may have a few thunderstorms on Tuesday into Wednesday. We’ll watch trends over the weekend and bring you the latest about next week in the RedZone Weather app.

TROPICS QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean remain quiet with no areas of concern noted by the National Hurricane Center. Tropical storm formation is not expected over the next 5-7 days. Long range models continue to show quiet conditions into the end of October.

APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download.
