SEVERE WEATHER RISK ON FRIDAY: GUSTY WINDS, HAIL, A FEW TORNADOES… The severe weather risk on Friday has increased with the Storm Prediction Center now including much of southwest Alabama and northwest Florida in their Level 2 (out of 5) risk zone. Damaging wind gusts and large hail will be the two primary concerns. A few tornadoes may also be possible. Right now, details concerning timing of this system are a bit murky as we may have a round of thunderstorms that moves through in the early morning hours, followed by a round of severe storms in the afternoon hours. I will have more details on this developing severe weather threat tonight and tomorrow ahead of the storms on Friday.
SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – FRIDAY… Multiple waves of thunderstorms are expected Friday. One round of storms will likely approach our area from the west in the early morning (4-6AM) hours. Another round of storms is likely in the late morning and afternoon hours. Confidence in the specific timing of these two rounds of storms unfortunately remains rather low. GUSTY WINDS & HAIL ARE THE MAIN CONCERNS… While the tornado risk is NOT zero, the risk of tornadoes with this system does remain fairly low across the local area. I expect damaging wind gusts and large hail (perhaps up to ping pong ball size hail!) to be the main concerns. Please have a way to hear warnings on Friday.
