STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE FRIDAY; MAINLY SUNNY TODAY… Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will become possible on Friday with the main concern being the potential for gusty winds and large hail. The overall tornado risk is quite low on Friday. The risk is not zero, but the risk of any tornadoes IS low. Before we get to Friday, we have a mostly sunny Thursday on tap across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Rain chances remain in the 0-10% chance range across the region, and while I cannot completely rule out one or two pop-up showers or storms today, the overall chance of any given location getting wet before the end of the day is quite low.

DENSE FOG ADVISORY THIS MORNING… The National Weather Service maintains a Dense Fog Advisory across the entirety of southwest Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday morning. Take it slow and easy if you’re out and about driving this morning as fog is dense in many spots. Fog will burn off by 9-10AM this morning.

MOSTLY SUNNY TODAY… Mostly sunny skies are expected across the region this afternoon into this evening with very low (although probably not completely zero) rain chances expected. High temperatures will be near or just above the 90 degree mark in many spots across the region by 3PM.

SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – FRIDAY… The threat of severe storms on Friday is conditional in nature, meaning there are variables involved that could lead to storms fizzling out completely before moving into our area. Right now, the main window for strong to severe thunderstorms on Friday will happen from 9AM to 2PM. Storms will likely be moving west out of Mississippi into west Alabama in the late morning hours and gradually cross our area through midday and the early afternoon hours. We encourage everyone to have a way to hear warnings on Friday, just in case a tornado warning is needed for your specific location.

MAIN CONCERNS FRIDAY: GUSTY WINDS & HAIL… The overall tornado risk on Friday remains low, but not completely zero. I expect any storms that can become strong or marginally severe on Friday to be capable of producing large hail (perhaps up to golfball size) and gusty winds capable of knocking down a few trees. The overall flash flood risk seems quite limited as storms are not expected to produce extreme amounts of rainfall over the same areas.

FEW STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY… Lingering showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday, but I expect the overall coverage of rain and storms to be less overall compared to Friday. Highs on Saturday will again be in the upper-80s and near 90 in most spots locally. Severe storms are not expected on Saturday.

MOSTLY SUNNY SUNDAY INTO MONDAY… Lower rain chances and drier conditions arrive on Sunday with highs slated to be in the low-90s. Dry, hot conditions look to prevail into early next week with highs around 90 on both Monday and Tuesday with overnight lows in the mid-60s.
