MORE SUNSHINE TODAY & WEDNESDAY; WARM DAYS AHEAD… Sunny skies are in the forecast on this Tuesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-80s. More sunshine is ahead for Wednesday and Thursday. Rain chances will rise as we go into the upcoming weekend when scattered showers and thunderstorms will again become possible. A few more Tuesday morning forecast notes are below.
TROPICS: SUBTROPICAL LOW MAY DEVELOP OFF CAROLINA COAST… In our first mention of the tropics of 2022, a non-tropical area of low pressure may acquire some subtropical characteristics and briefly become a classified (named) subtropical storm in the western Atlantic Ocean near the Carolinas. Regardless of if this system becomes a named system, it will never directly affect Alabama or northwest Florida. The first name on the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Naming List is “Alex.”
TROPICS: FIRST TROPICAL WAVE OF THE YEAR… You would’ve thought the sky fell yesterday if you were watching Twitter. Several tweeters lost their respective minds over the first tropical wave emerging from the African continent into the eastern Atlantic Ocean. That is what we call a “slow news day event” that is a totally normal phenomenon this time of year. We will have countless tropical waves emerge from Africa in the weeks and months ahead. A few will inevitably become tropical storms and hurricanes. I’m tired of seeing hyped up news that isn’t really news. You won’t get that watching our coverage, that I can assure you! The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially kicks off on June 1.
