MOSTLY SUNNY THURSDAY; FEW STORMS AROUND TONIGHT AND OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS… Mostly sunny skies are ahead on this Thursday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. A few showers and storms could happen this evening just after sunset in parts of Mobile and Baldwin counties, although the chance of rain for any given community remains quite low. High temperatures on this Thursday will be around the 90 degree mark. Looking ahead, rain chances are set to rise as we get into Friday and the upcoming weekend. A few more Thursday morning forecast notes are below.

LOW-END RAIN CHANCE NEAR MOBILE BAY TONIGHT… A pop-up shower or thunderstorm or two may be possible later today, specifically after 5PM in parts of Mobile and Baldwin counties. I am not expecting much rain at all, but I did want to at least mention the “off chance” scenario that a few communities in southern Mobile and Baldwin counties could have rain before 10PM. Severe storms are not expected.

A FEW POP-UP STORMS POSSIBLE FRIDAY… Rain chances will increase on Friday when a few pop-up thunderstorms will be possible across the region. I expect the overall coverage of rain to be a bit higher in coastal counties (Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia [FL], Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa) compared to counties farther inland. Highs on Friday will be in the upper-80s.

SCATTERED STORMS AROUND THIS WEEKEND… Scattered thunderstorms will be possible at times this weekend, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Widespread severe weather is not expected this weekend but some of the storms could be “loud and proud” with cloud-to-ground lightning being possible.

INCREASINGLY HOT TEMPS NEXT WEEK… A large ridge of high pressure will keep our weather pattern dry as we get into the middle part of the upcoming week. Hot temperatures are expected with highs likely in the mid-90s by Wednesday.

TROPICS QUIET, FOR NOW… Despite rumblings on social media from the fear mongers and hyperbole machine, the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean remain quiet with no tropical storms or hurricanes expected to form over the next five days. One model, the Global Forecast System, outputted a run or two of a potential tropical storm in the eastern Gulf of Mexico happening in 10-14 days. For now, that solution remains an outlier.
