HERE COMES THE RAIN; 3-5″ OF RAIN LIKELY NEAR COAST… Deep tropical moisture from a decaying Eastern Pacific hurricane will set the stage for a wet day on Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. While significant local impacts appear unlikely, this will be a majorly beneficial rainfall event that will help to “put a dent” in the ongoing drought across the region. Rainfall totals are expected to be in the 3-5″ range closer to the coast and in the 1-3″ range farther inland.

RISK OF ANY SEVERE STORMS REMAINS LOW, FOR NOW… The good news with this significant rain event setting up is that any risk of tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and hail looks to be minimal. A few thunderstorms will be possible over the next few days but there is no formal, discernible risk of any severe storms for land areas. Severe storms may become possible across the northern Gulf of Mexico offshore, but the risk for land areas remains quite low or near zero, for now. If that changes, I’ll let you know in the RedZone Weather app.

BREEZY CONDITIONS WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY… In addition to the rainfall expected on Wednesday, breezy conditions (15-25 mph wind gusts) will be likely throughout the day. A Gale Watch is in effect for the northern Gulf as gusty winds are likely throughout the day on Wednesday into Thursday.

RIP CURRENT WARNING IN EFFECT WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY… If you’re headed to the beach during the rain event on Wednesday, be aware that the risk of rip currents will be high. A Rip Current Warning (high risk of rip currents!) is in effect starting on Wednesday for all Alabama and northwest Florida beaches.
