CLOUDS INCREASE TODAY AHEAD OF RAIN ON WEDNESDAY… Cloud coverage will increase across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday ahead of heavy rain becoming possible at times on Wednesday. High temperatures today will be in the mid-80s. Showers and thunderstorms may begin as early as the predawn hours of Wednesday and gradually move from west to east throughout the day on Wednesday. There inevitably will be pockets of heavier rainfall, particularly in communities closer to the immediate coast. This will be an extremely beneficial rainfall event for the local area considering ongoing drought conditions have worsened over the last several weeks. Spotty showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Thursday and Friday ahead of a drier, cooler weekend.

HIGHER RAINFALL TOTALS CLOSER TO THE COAST… 3 to 5 inches of total rainfall is expected through early Thursday morning in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties. 1 to 3 inches of total rainfall is expected in Washington, Clarke, Monroe, Conecuh, Escambia (AL), Covington, and Butler counties farther inland. Rain chances will be highest during the daytime hours of Wednesday.

RISK OF ANY SEVERE STORMS REMAINS LOW, FOR NOW… The good news with this significant rain event setting up is that any risk of tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and hail looks to be minimal. A few thunderstorms will be possible over the next few days but there is no formal, discernible risk of any severe storms.
