MOSTLY SUNNY & COLD TODAY; FREEZING TEMPS TONIGHT INLAND… Skies will become mostly sunny on this Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Keep the jackets handy throughout the day as temperatures will be in the 50s for much of the day AND breezy conditions will continue. Most spots will reach the upper-50s or near 60° by 3PM. Temperatures will plunge after sunset. A Freeze Warning is in effect for many communities, particularly farther inland, overnight into Thursday morning.

RED FLAG FIRE WARNING TODAY… Please do not conduct outdoor burning today as the entire local area is under a Red Flag Fire Warning, meaning any burns could quickly get out of control due to ongoing gusty winds and low humidity values. This warning is in effect for ALL local communities today.

FREEZE WARNING TONIGHT… A Freeze Warning is in effect for the overnight hours into Thursday morning for several local counties across the interior regions of south Alabama. Temperatures will be in the 28-32° range by daybreak on Thursday in these areas. The Freeze Warning includes Washington, Clarke, Monroe, Conecuh, Covington, Butler, Escambia (AL), northern Baldwin, northern Mobile, Choctaw, Wilcox, and Crenshaw counties.

WARMER TEMPS THIS WEEKEND… High temperatures will quickly rebound into the 70s by Saturday and Sunday with overnight lows likely to be in the 40s and 50s. Full sunshine is expected Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

TROPICS: TROPICAL STORM LIKELY TO FORM IN CARIBBEAN SEA… There is a 60-70% chance of a tropical storm forming in the central or western Caribbean Sea in the days ahead as a tropical disturbance moves west toward Central America. From the National Hurricane Center: “Shower and thunderstorm activity in association with a trough of low pressure over the east-central Caribbean Sea remains disorganized. While environmental conditions appear only marginally conducive for further development during the next several days, a tropical depression could form by the latter part of this week as the system moves generally westward over the central and southwestern Caribbean Sea. Regardless of development, this system has the potential to produce heavy rains over portions of Central America towards the end of the week.”
