MAINLY SUNNY TODAY; VERY COLD NIGHT AHEAD; RAIN LIKELY WEDNESDAY… Happy New Year! I hope 2024 is a healthy, prosperous, wonderful year for you. Rain chances are low on this first day of 2024 across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Low, not zero. A few showers will be possible this afternoon, particularly closer to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches. The vast majority of us across the region will remain dry. High temperatures will be in the low-60s today. We have a cold night coming up tonight with lows slated to be in the mid- to upper-20s in many spots.

LOW TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING TONIGHT… Tonight is slated to be the coldest night we have had in awhile. Most communities farther inland will be in the mid-20s by daybreak on Tuesday with wind chill values in the low-20s. Temperatures will be in the upper-20s and low-30s closer to the coast. Regardless of where you are across the region tonight, temperatures will be near or more likely below the freezing mark. Outdoor pets and plants should be inside tonight.

DRY TUESDAY; RAIN RETURNS ON WEDNESDAY… Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with high temperatures in the mid-50s. Wednesday will be a cold, raw day with numerous showers expected throughout the day. No mixed precipitation or snow is expected but a cold rain is likely at times for much of the day on Wednesday as an area of low pressure passes to our south in the northern Gulf. High temperatures on Wednesday will likely be stuck in the 40s in many spots across the region.

UNSETTLED, COOL PATTERN INTO THE WEEKEND… Cool days and cold nights are upcoming on Thursday and Friday with highs likely to be in the 50s with morning lows in the 30s. Our next chance of rain (after Wednesday) happens Saturday when showers and thunderstorms will again become possible. It is a bit too early to speculate on any severe weather probabilities.
