RAIN TODAY; COLD TEMPS OVERNIGHT; MULTIPLE CHANCES OF STORMS AHEAD… Cold, rainy conditions are expected throughout the day on this Wednesday. High temperatures won’t get out of the upper-40s in many spots across the region. Scattered to numerous rain showers will continue this afternoon into the early evening hours before pushing out of our area to the east this evening. The good news is no severe storms are expected today as all of the surface-based instability remains well to our south in the Gulf of Mexico. A few rumbles of thunder cannot completely be ruled out in parts of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties today but most of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida will simply have rain at times. We’re entering into an active weather pattern today, this weekend, and into early next week. A few more Wednesday morning forecast details are below.

RAIN MOVES OUT LATER TODAY; VERY COLD TONIGHT… After a cold, miserable, rainy day, rain is slated to move to our east this evening. While I do not expect mixed precipitation or snow this evening, a few patchy areas of black ice on area roadways may be possible overnight, depending on just how quickly rain moves to our east. Colder air (below freezing) will move into our region overnight and most spots will be in the upper-20s around 6AM Thursday morning.

MAINLY SUNNY TOMORROW; RAIN AND STORMS RETURN FRIDAY P.M. INTO SATURDAY… We start the day in the upper-20s on Thursday but we will quickly rebound into the mid-50s tomorrow afternoon. Skies will likely be partly cloudy in the morning hours of Thursday with mostly sunny skies later in the day. Rain becomes likely on Friday, most likely in the hours after sunset. A few thunderstorms may become possible Friday night into Saturday morning, especially around the immediate coast. The overall setup on Friday night into Saturday will depend on exactly where an area of low pressure moves and if warmer, more unstable air can move farther inland. If that scenario happens, more thunderstorms would be possible across the region.

MOSTLY CLOUDY THIS WEEKEND… Rain will clear out most likely around midday on Saturday. Highs will be in the upper-50s and near 60 on Saturday. Mostly cloudy skies will linger on Saturday evening and into Sunday. Most spots should reach the low-60s by Sunday afternoon.

SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY… The Storm Prediction Center has included parts of south Alabama and northwest Florida in an uncommon Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid 5 days out, specifically on Monday into early Tuesday. A Level 2 (out of 5) risk is not particularly uncommon, but it IS uncommon to see the issuance of a defined severe weather risk zone five days out. The reason for the defined risk this far out is because of a consistent model signal suggesting a negatively-tilted trough in combination with a surface low pressure area expected to bring a surge of warm, unstable air into parts of the Deep South. This setup will be conducive for tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, and potentially flash flooding. Details on exactly what we can expect in our local area will come into better focus over the next few days. For now, plan on storms happening Monday into Tuesday with the potential for some of the storms being strong or severe.
