BECOMING SUNNY TODAY; LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK FRIDAY EVENING… Skies will become sunny today before we see another round of rain and perhaps a few thunderstorms tomorrow (Friday) into Friday night. There is a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk in place for coastal counties of Alabama and northwest Florida Friday P.M. into early Saturday A.M. The risk is conditional, meaning a certain set of circumstances will have to come together in order for any severe storms to happen. Contrast that with the scenario on Monday when severe storms are more likely. The weekend will be quiet with no major issues Saturday P.M. through Sunday. Monday P.M. may feature a few tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, hail, and flash flooding. A few more Thursday morning forecast notes are below.

TEMPERATURES NEAR & BELOW FREEZING AGAIN TONIGHT… Sunshine today should warm temperatures well into the 50s in many spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Temperatures will dive into the 40s after sunset. Most locales will have overnight lows in the low-30s. Upper-20s may be possible across northern parts of Washington, Clarke, Monroe, Conecuh, and Butler counties.

RAIN LIKELY FRIDAY INTO FRIDAY NIGHT; LOW-END CHANCE OF SEVERE STORMS… Rain chances will rise, yet again, on Friday. Scattered showers will become more numerous in the afternoon and early evening hours ahead of a low-end chance of a few stronger or marginally severe thunderstorms in the evening hours. High temperatures on Friday will be in the 50s inland and near 60 closer to the coast. Any severe storms that happen Friday evening will likely be in parts of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties where the overall environment will be a bit more supportive of a few stronger storms. The overall tornado risk is LOW, but not entirely zero, specifically for coastal counties.

MOSTLY CLOUDY THIS WEEKEND… Rain will clear out most likely around midday on Saturday. Highs will be in the upper-50s and near 60 on Saturday. Mostly cloudy skies will linger on Saturday evening and into Sunday. Most spots should reach the low-60s by Sunday afternoon.

SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY… The Storm Prediction Center continues to include south Alabama and northwest Florida in an uncommon Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid now 4 days out, specifically on Monday into early Tuesday. A Level 2 (out of 5) risk is not particularly uncommon, but it IS uncommon to see the issuance of a defined severe weather risk zone four days out. The reason for the defined risk this far out is because of a consistent model signal suggesting a negatively-tilted trough in combination with a surface low pressure area expected to bring a surge of warm, unstable air into parts of the Deep South. This setup will be conducive for tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, and potentially flash flooding. Details on exactly what we can expect in our local area will come into better focus over the next few days. For now, plan on storms happening Monday into Tuesday with the potential for some of the storms being strong or severe.
