STRONG STORMS APPROACHING I-65… Strong thunderstorms are approaching the Interstate 65 corridor from the northwest in Butler and Conecuh counties. At the moment, heavy rain, gusty winds, and lots of lightning are happening in northern Monroe, far northern Conecuh, and much of western Butler counties in south Alabama. This round of storms is currently over Old Texas, Midway, Forest Home, Pineapple, and Beatrice, moving southeast. This means if you’re planning to be on I-65 between Evergreen and Fort Deposit, there probably will be downpours happening within the hour.

SEVERE STORM OVER CAMDEN… NWS Mobile maintains the severe thunderstorm warning in place for much of Wilcox County, including Camden, Oak Hill, and Pineapple due to a severe thunderstorm currently over Camden. This storm could produce 60mph wind gusts and small hail as it moves right over the AL10 corridor from Camden to the Butler County line.

STORMS OVER WEST ALABAMA…. Small thunderstorms are also firing in Choctaw, Washington, and Mobile counties. These storms will likely increase in number and in size over the next hour.

STORM OVER NICEVILLE… The only storm in progress in northwest Florida at the moment is right over Niceville and northern Choctawhatchee Bay in southern Okaloosa County…

BIG TAKEAWAY… The main headline with today’s weather forecast has not changed. Scattered heavy downpours of rain are likely over the next few hours. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but a few of the storms may ramp up to strong or briefly severe levels due to the low-end potential of damaging straight line winds. The tornado risk today remains at virtually zero.

I’ll have more updates this afternoon and this evening as needed here in the RZWeather app.
