STORMS POSSIBLE TODAY; DRIER DAYS ON THE WAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will again be the lead weather story on this Saturday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will peak around 88° where rain isn’t occurring. There should be plenty of sunshine hours at the local beaches today. Be sure to keep tabs on the radar throughout the day as storms will pop up with very little notice. STORMS TODAY & SUNDAY… There’s a high chance that most spots will see rain/storms today. We’ll call it a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms today and a 50% chance of storms for Sunday. Most of these storms will be pulse-like, meaning organized severe weather is not expected. I can’t rule out a stronger storm or two, but the risk of severe weather remains very low. No tornado risk. High temperatures today and tomorrow will approach 88-90°.
RAIN CHANCES LESSEN NEXT WEEK… Rain chances will remain elevated through Monday. Tuesday will be a transition day to drier weather. Wednesday through Saturday of the upcoming week will likely be dry, warm, and slightly less humid as an area of high pressure to our north takes full control of our weather pattern. Temperatures for the upcoming week will be a bit more fall-like, with high temperatures in the mid-80s and morning lows in the mid- to upper-60s.
TROPICS QUIETER OVERALL… Tropical Storm Kirk, located in the eastern Caribbean Sea just to the west of the Lesser Antilles, is barely hanging on to its status this morning. The low-level center of circulation has been exposed well to the east of the remaining convection, meaning that Kirk’s remaining time is limited. The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for complete dissipation within the next 24-36 hours. Redevelopment is not expected as strong wind shear continues ahead of what is left of Kirk. Great news! Subtropical Storm Leslie redeveloped over the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean and will meander well east of Bermuda in the days ahead. No land impacts are expected. Beyond those two systems, no other areas of concern are present in the tropics in the Atlantic basin (including the Gulf of Mexico) at this time.
